Bio
Shout-it-Out-Sprout, latin name: Vociferor Maximus. When full grown, this lively Northern California native is the queen of the field, quick to make her presence known with her strong personality and colorful language. One of the more mature species out there (known to have conquered the field even after 40 years), Sprout is a natural leader combined with the agility and quickness of a new seedling. Despite her outspoken nature, Sprout has an uncanny ability to hide, stealthily surprising her enemies and forcing them to surrender their territory. You will not be sorry to have this vivacious variety playing in your backyard, and will be thrilled to see her colors (and her sneakiness) grow stronger with each season that she blooms.
Planting: Sprout is happiest growing in foggy, ocean climates such as Santa Cruz, California. However, she also loves the sun and snow of the mountains, and in her youth, has been known to flourish in urban settings like Berkeley. As long as she is in California and has plenty of room to be active, she will be happy. Plant next to Marthalus Minimus and you will discover the excellent result of hot-headed enthusiasm tempered with rational, intelligent light-heartedness that makes this bloom such a special member of her field.
Season: This perennial starts peaking out her head in the early months of spring, but, especially as she ages, don't be fooled by her quick starts as her stem and roots might not be ready to handle the pressure that her impressive movement puts on her core. Not to worry; come the warmer months of August and September, or a trip to sunny Florida in late October, Shout-it-Out is up and playing like she's 17 again. She is especially impressive in the strongest heat or pressure, standing tall, beckoning her companions to do the same, while others cower and wilt under her imposing shadow.
