Bio
Haling from Chico, CA, and currently settled in Truckee, CA Alicia Barr is what you'd call a "game-changing player." She has always had the uncanny ability to make an amazing sky, layout score, or soaring defensive block at the perfect moment. Her ability to perform under pressure may come from her college background in Track and Field. As a student at Chico State, Alicia ran the 400m hurdles and the 4x100m and 4x400m relays. She first started playing ultimate after attending lunchtime pick-up at her first job in Roseville, CA.
Arguably Fury's most clutch player, this year is her 6th season with the team. Drawing inspiration from past teammates such as Amy Little, Alicia gets fired up when she sees her teammates going outside of their comfort zones to do something they haven't done before. Her favorite thing about the game of Ultimate is "how everyone is a complete player. You have to be able to do it all in this sport," says Alicia. "Catch, throw, play O, play D. There are no specialists." Alicia, however, is certainly a specialist in the ways of speed, aggression, and strength.
Ultimate isn't Alicia's only passion. A sucker for a good Pale Ale, she has a knack for business and brewing beer. To our delight, she put the two together and recently opened her own brewery in Truckee, CA. These days, in addition to making huge plays for Fury, Alicia spends her time creating delicious microbrews at Fifty Fifty Brewing Company.
When she was a child, Alicia dreamed of becoming a Volcanologist. Appropriately, as a super hero she would be totally impervious to heat or cold so that she could explore volcanoes and icebergs...and perhaps save the world? If stranded on a desert island Alicia would have the following albums to entertain her: Ben Folds, Handsome Boy Modeling School, and Vampire Weekend. She would simultaneously be reading the following three books: Genome, Dragon Prince, and Origin of Species. If you meet her at a party, offer this Fury a Barrel-Aged Stout to break the ice and hope she doesn't D you up on the field.
